About PeddapuramPeddapuram is a town located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh in the East Godavri District of the sate in South India. It is the capital town for Peddapuram Mandal in the district. It is located at 17.08°N 82.13°E. It has average elevation of 35 meters or 114 feet. According to the 2011 census, the town has a total population of 49,477. The male population of the town is 49% and the female population consists of 51% of the total town population. Out of the total population of the town 10% consists of children aged between the years 0-6. The average literacy rate of the town is 76.14% with 33,930 literates. The local language of the town is Telugu.
History of PeddapuramThe town of Peddapuram was founded by Maharaja Vatsavai Pedda Pathrudu. The dynasty was started by Sri Raja Vatsavai Chathurbhuja Thimma Jagapathi Bahadhur. The fort of Peddapuram was also built him. He was the ruler of the estate from 1555 to 1607. After his demise the legacy continued till 1804. One of the Princess of this estate escaped and ruled separately an independent kingdom named as Kottam State. By 1785 there were 585 villages and towns under the dynasty. During the British Raj, Sri Raya Jagapathi was chosen to take the reins of the estate. After his demise, his widowed wives ruled the estate till 1835. Since, there was no heir to the throne eventually the East India Company took over full control over the estate.
The town is also very famous for its Pandavulla Metta, where it is known that Pandavas stayed in their exile period for 13 years. We can also find various ancient caves with foot prints of Pandavas, which is also a great attraction in this small town. The Peddapuram Maharaja’s fort is also a very famous attraction in this town.

How to reach PeddapuramBy Air – The Peddapuram does not have the airport facility. Hence, the best way to reach the town by air would be take a flight to the Rajamundhary Airport. The town is well connected the Rajamnudhry town with trains and buses at regular intervals.
By Road – The town is well connected with major cities in the state through various buses. The bus service provide by the mandal is very convenient to use.
By Train – The town has its own railway station, but no regular trains are available from major cities. Although, we could get trains to the Samalkot Junction at regular intervals and, thereafter take a train or bus to the Peddapuram. The most suggested way to reach Peddapuram from Samalkot is to take a taxi or a cab.
